This partnership project, led by Shropshire Museums Service and funded by Arts Council England will support and develop new approaches to volunteering, especially virtual volunteering, within museums and heritage services across Shropshire. A minimum of 10,000 digital resources will be created by the project. The project will create all kinds of volunteering opportunities for people working from home. This new project will be working alongside ‘Volunteering for Shropshire’s Heritage’. Watch this space!

Some of our band of intrepid volunteers have now begun have now begun the not inconsiderable task of placing some of the inventories of museum objects held at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery onto the ‘Adlib’ database used by the museum service in Shropshire. This work is taking place both at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery and also at Shropshire Archives. This is something of a departure for the latter, where never before have sea squirts, ammonites and taxidermy occupied so much attention!
It’s great that our volunteers are working with such a fabulous diversity of materials. A little later in the year the museum are going to be recruiting volunteers to work in teams, packing up objects preparatory to the move to the new venue in the Music Hall in Shrewsbury.
